I believe that tree roots can serve as a metaphor for mental health struggles showing the way that outside circumstances can shape how we develop and often can cause difficulty but still we continue to survive and even grow. Things like rocks, rivers, other trees, and human made objects can make life harder for trees to exist but still there are many trees that are so strong and resilient in spite of their obstacles. Often the very fact that we can see the tree roots is a testament to things not being ideal for them but the times that we do see the usually concealed roots we aren’t often amazed by the interesting and beautiful shapes caused by their struggles. Maybe the same is true for the interesting people in our lives that continue to exist and grow despite their trials.
